Our team was commissioned by a local Parish Council to design and construct a bespoke timber shelter to enhance a public recreational space. Our team was commissioned by a local Parish Council to design and construct a bespoke timber shelter to enhance a public recreational space. The shelter needed to provide a comfortable and durable resting point for visitors while complementing the surrounding landscape. The Parish Council’s brief specified that the structure should include integrated seating, be robust enough for high levels of community use, offer protection from the elements, and maintain a visually appealing appearance consistent with the rural setting. Swipe for more The completed shelter was entirely hand-built on site using high-quality, pressure-treated timber for long-lasting performance and a natural aesthetic. Every detail was carefully considered to balance strength, practicality, and design appeal. Key features include: Integrated Timber Seating: Built-in bench seating was incorporated along the interior perimeter, providing ample space for rest and social interaction while maximising the use of space. Robust Construction: The entire structure was designed to withstand heavy use and varying weather conditions, ensuring durability and minimal maintenance for the Parish Council. Water-Resistant Roof: A pitched, water-resistant roof was installed to provide effective shelter from rain while maintaining a warm, inviting look. Aesthetic Design: The timber finish and proportions were chosen to blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment, creating a visually pleasing addition to the community space. The final result is a sturdy, attractive shelter that enhances the usability of the field year-round, encouraging community engagement and outdoor activity. This project presented logistical challenges due to the site’s location and the need to protect the surrounding landscape: Restricted Access: The shelter site was located on the far side of a large field with limited access routes. The nearby car park was frequently busy, requiring careful coordination to transport materials and equipment safely without disruption. Ground Protection: To prevent any damage to the grassed field during construction, our team made use of ground boarding systems and specialised plant designed for use on turf. This allowed safe vehicle and material movement while preserving the field’s condition. Manual Installation: Due to the sensitivity of the site and access limitations, much of the structure was hand-built and assembled on site, ensuring precision and minimal impact on the environment. The Parish Council’s new timber shelter has become a valued feature of the local community space, providing a practical and attractive area for visitors to gather, rest, and enjoy the outdoors in all weather conditions. The project showcases our ability to deliver high-quality, bespoke timber structures with attention to detail, environmental sensitivity, and craftsmanship at the forefront of our approach.
