Our team was commissioned by a school in Southampton to design and construct a large outdoor classroom to enhance learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom setting. The school required a purpose-built structure that could accommodate whole-class teaching, provide integrated seating, and include secure storage, all while fitting seamlessly within the existing school grounds. The objective of the project was to create a durable, practical, and engaging outdoor learning space that could be used throughout the school year. Secure Rear Storage: A fenced-off storage area was constructed behind the classroom unit, providing the school with a safe and practical solution for storing outdoor learning resources and equipment. Bespoke Timber Design: The structure was constructed using high-quality, durable materials to ensure longevity and suitability for regular outdoor use. The completed unit offers a functional and inviting learning environment that supports outdoor education and pupil engagement. Delivering this project during term time presented several logistical challenges: Working in a Live School Environment: All works were carefully scheduled around the school day, with strict site safety measures in place to maintain a secure environment for pupils and staff at all times. Design and Build Coordination: As the classroom was designed and built from the ground up, close collaboration with the school ensured the final layout met teaching needs, space constraints, and safeguarding requirements.
